This term has seen the launch of the TCS Esports Centre and Esports programmes. The old W44 classroom had a significant makeover to create our esports arena, making us the only comprehensive school in the South West with such a facility. Students studying Esports, Computer Science and Digital Game development now have access to a state of the art facility for their learning. The facility allows students to play at the same level as peers from other colleges, as well as giving students skills in digital media management, streaming, event management and digital marketing. This term has also seen the school forming an esports team to participate in the British Esports National Student Championships where we have entered two teams for Rocket League and Valorant, we have also got Year 11 involved with the schools Overwatch 2 team. The Student Champs tournament involves teams of students from schools and Colleges across the country to compete for a place in the Grand Final at the British Esports National Centre of Excellence.
The teams have made it through the play offs (Swiss Stage) and are now through to the groups stages of the tournament, with their performance between now and December determining whether they are promoted or into the knock out rounds for their respective leagues.
As esports is rapidly developing looking forward to next year the team are already looking towards new opportunities to compete in titles such as Smash Brothers, League of Legends and Formula 1.
