As part of our Sixth Form Enrichment programme, students have collaborated with the school Green Team to design and build a new environmentally friendly garden in our school. Students have reached out to the community and we have been lucky enough to be given donations from Otter Garden Centre, Jack’s Patch and our local hardware store, Fork Handles. We were also lucky enough to be invited as Toby Buckland’s guests at his Garden Festival at Powderham Castle on Friday, students outshone themselves with their outstanding behaviour and confidence when seeking support from all the stall holders and gaining generous donations for their project.
They also received some top tips on how to create our eco-friendly garden and how best to make it inviting for animals, insects, and biodiversity from gardening TV presenters Frances Tophill.
We are not only planning for this garden to promote and educate our students on wildlife protection in our school, but also for the mental health and wellbeing of our students, giving them a place to enjoy nature, feel proud of their school, and take a break after lessons and exams.
